The Canadian National Exhibition, or "The Ex" to many around the Toronto area, is a late summer tradition. Long gone are the glory days of The Ex. Huge pleasure parks in suburbs have stolen the attention. And yet it has it's shabby appeal. When I started this series, my intention was to shoot The Ex in it's nighttime splendor, as a sprawling urban netherworld, but became entranced but the smaller scenes - the bored and slightly hostile carnies, the less than busy concessions and snack bars, the abstract shapes, strong geometries, gleaming chrome, and the promise of a huge prize for a mere dollar. Step right up.
